When silent is the right shape
Sometimes you don't want a voice in your head. You want to sit, set a duration, and have something stop you when the time is up. That's what the timer is for. Pick a length. 5 minutes, 30, 60. Pick a bell interval if you want one. Press start and the screen goes dark.
For most people most of the time, guided meditations are more effective. There's a structure that holds your attention. Experienced practitioners often prefer the timer. Use whichever actually keeps you sitting.
