Why pick DTM

01
Custom Meditation

Custom Meditation that builds your session for you

Headspace ships pre-recorded sessions inside structured programs. DTM ships the same kind of catalogue plus an on-demand generator. Pick a length from 5 to 60 minutes, pick how much guidance you want, press play. DTM assembles a unique session from real practitioner audio.

02
Free tier

Free tier that doesn't require a trial

DTM's full 500+ library is free. No card to start, no 14-day countdown, no auto-renew at the end. Headspace's free tier is intentionally thin and most of the app is gated behind their 14-day trial. DTM's bet is that you'll subscribe to Plus when you want the Plus features. Not because a trial timer is forcing the decision.

03
Pricing

$10 a year cheaper

DTM Annual is $60. Headspace Annual is $69.99. DTM also offers a $219 Lifetime tier; Headspace doesn't offer a lifetime option at all. If you've been meditating long enough to be reading a comparison page, lifetime usually pays for itself within four years.

04
Voice

No founder-teacher personality

Headspace was built around Andy Puddicombe. His voice, his story, his Netflix series. That's part of the brand and it works for a lot of people. DTM is built without a single founder-teacher personality. The voice is consistent across the library, but it's not branded around one person. If founder-driven meditation feels like a poor fit for you, that's the trade-off Headspace asks you to make.

Common questions

Is DTM free?

Yes. 500+ guided meditations, no ads, no trial. Plus ($60/year, $219 once, or $8/month) adds daily meditations, full course library, offline downloads, and unlimited Custom Meditations.

Does DTM have a structured curriculum like Headspace?

Yes. DTM's 30 Days of Mindfulness is a structured month-long course aimed at beginners, plus shorter courses on specific topics. Headspace's curriculum library is larger; DTM's is curated. Different trade-off.

Can I import my Headspace progress?

No. App-to-app progress import isn't supported by either platform. Your streak resets but the practice carries over.

Is DTM as good as Headspace?

Different. Headspace has the bigger curriculum library and the Andy Puddicombe ecosystem (Netflix, Headspace Care). DTM has Custom Meditation, a larger free tier, and a lifetime option. Pick the one whose strengths actually map to how you'd use a meditation app.
